The City of Fargo is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Fire Fighter without regard to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation or any other status or condition protected by applicable federal and state laws except where a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) applies.

SALARY: 2013 annual starting salary is $43,971 ($3664/month) plus benefits.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) and must have one of the following:
1. An Associate of Science Degree in Fire Technologies and Administration; or
2. Fire Fighter I/II curriculum as approved by the National Fire Academy (or an equivalent program which conforms to NFPA 1001) and successful completion of 60 college semester hours in any subject; or
3. Successful completion of 90 college semester hours in any subject; or
4. Equivalent education and experience.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must obtain national certification as an Emergency Medical Technician within the probationary period (one year). The applicant must have the ability to understand the English language, written and spoken. They must pass a physical agility test that will demonstrate they possess adequate physical ability to perform all duties and be able to utilize all issued equipment under hazardous conditions. In addition, they will participate in an oral interview with a panel representing Human Resources and Fire officials, and are subject to a background investigation. Following a conditional offer of employment applicant shall be required to successfully pass a comprehensive medical examination (includes drug screen), psychological exam and a polygraph exam.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Appointees to the position of Fire Fighter are also subject to all applicable provisions of federal and state law; the Ordinances of the City of Fargo as set forth in the Fargo Municipal Code; all City of Fargo Employment policies; and all applicable departmental rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
